Cowpea, or niébé, is the bean of West Africa, and Togo grew more than 216,000 tonnes in the 2022–2023 season. It is the bean behind akara fritters, moin-moin, beans and gari, and, across the ocean, the black-eyed peas of Caribbean rice dishes and Southern “Hoppin’ John”.
Two types:
- White (black-eyed peas): cream-coloured beans with the typical black eye, quick-cooking with a smooth texture.
- Red cowpea: smaller red-brown beans with a richer, earthier flavour, preferred in many West African dishes.
How we supply them:
- Dried to 12 % moisture or less, cleaned, sorted and free of foreign matter. Stored in hermetic bags before shipment to protect against weevils.
- Packed in new PP sacks of 25 kg or 50 kg, or by the pallet of 1 tonne (20 × 50 kg).
- Shelf-stable: stored dry and shipped by sea freight in dry containers.
Every lot is traceable to its farming area and ships with its phytosanitary certificate.
We can send a sample if you want to check the quality first.
