Rice in Togo is mostly grown by smallholders in the lowland valleys (bas-fonds), which supply more than half of the national harvest, and in rain-fed fields. In 2023 the country harvested about 183,000 tonnes of paddy. Togo still imports part of the rice it eats, so local rice is a valued, origin-traceable product, and our export volumes are limited.
Two qualities:
- Local parboiled: the paddy is soaked and steamed before hulling. The grain becomes firmer, keeps more of its nutrients, and stays separate and non-sticky after cooking. The rice of choice for jollof, riz au gras and rice with sauce.
- Local white milled: hulled and polished rice with 5 to 10 % broken grains, soft and fragrant, for everyday cooking.
How we supply it:
- Dried to 14 % moisture or less, sorted, destoned and dust-free.
- Packed in new PP sacks of 25 kg or 50 kg, or by the pallet of 1 tonne (20 × 50 kg).
- Shipped by sea freight in dry containers.
- Because Togo is a net rice importer, volumes are limited and the export authorization is confirmed for each lot before we invoice.
Every lot is traceable to its rice-growing area.
