Turnips need cool weather, between about 15 and 20 °C, which Togo only offers for a few weeks during the harmattan, from November to February. They are not a regular crop in West African markets, so we grow them to order: once you book a volume, our partner growers in the cooler areas sow it for you and harvest it about two months later.
The roots are white with a purple top, crisp and mildly peppery, and they turn sweet and tender when cooked.
How we supply them:
- Two sizes, about 200 g and 300 g per root, topped, washed and sorted.
- Packed in breathable sacks of 10 kg or 25 kg, or by the pallet of 1 tonne (40 × 25 kg).
- Kept at 0–4 °C and high humidity, where turnips keep for several months, and shipped by refrigerated container.
- Contract volumes only: please book before October for the coming season.
Use them roasted, mashed, in soups, stews and pickles. Every lot is traceable to the farm.
